Just because Sofia is incredibly stupid doesn’t mean the readers are. The second half and the twist (I’m not sure it was a twist because it was SO obvious) is spoiled because the book literally shows you without a doubt what is true. The plot is pretty well spoiled by the blurb, at least the first half. Riley and Brooklyn are compelling but Sofia didn’t even need to be part of the story. She just lets the plot happen and sometimes screws up. The night drags on forever and Sofia is such a bland character that I don’t care if she escapes. The gorefest is unique to Vega but it’s not particularly interesting or good.

Mean Girls meets a B level horror movie in this confusing and cringey tale. "I'm allowed to be afraid, I remind myself, taking a deep breath of the hot, stale hallway air. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us? In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn-but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation.

Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here.
